Friggatriskaidekaphobia anyone?

In case you’re wondering that big long word isn’t rude.  Friggatriskaidekaphobia is the fear of Friday the 13th -no, not the film franchise, the date!  Like … ooh, today.

Now I can’t recall anything particularly bad ever happening to me on the numerous Friday 13th’s that I’ve lived through, so it’s not really something that fills me with any more trepidation than any other date in the calendar.

Apparently things are going to be a little different this year.  Four planets – Venus, Jupiter, Mercury and Mars – will be in alignment over eastern Australia. I have it on good authority that the last time this happened was in 1910.

The fear of the number 13 has manifested itself in many ways, like hotels not having a 13th floor – this always gets me because just because it’s not numbered 13 it is still, in actuality, the 13th floor! Stopping at 12 would be a better way to go.  Even better are the lifts that don’t stop at the 13th floor – that’s definitely unlucky for those punters staying on that floor.

The good news for anyone with this phobia is that you only have to make it through today because it’s there aren’t any more until next year.  That is, of course, providing we all survive the predicted ‘end of days’ on 21 May.
