Ready for the big weekend

It’s going to be a big weekend for sport.

First up the early kick-off (12:45) tomorrow, and my beloved West Ham have an appointment at White Hart Lane for a local derby against the old rivals Tottenham.  This is going to be a nail-biter because the Irons really need to win to keep the hopes of staying up alive.  However, after that debacle last weekend of losing to Stoke (who we’d beaten 3-0 the week before), I’m not so sure what to expect.  I guess it all depends on whether the team plays to its’ strengths.  If they had shown any kind of consistency this season it might be easier to call – they do tend to pick up their game for the bigger teams, but then again all too often they have been known to just go out without any belief whatsoever!  We shall see …

Next up, just a two-and-a-half hours after the end of the West Ham match, the England rugby union team head across the Irish Sea to the Aviva Stadium.  A win will see them win their first grand slam since 2003.  I for one am going to be parked in front of the telly come 5 o’clock, with beers and snacks at the ready.  I expect it to be a tense affair, much like the Scotland game, but ultimately with an England victory.
